SUSTAINABILITY

Food Security

Achieving food security is a major challenge that requires joint efforts at the national and global levels. It is currently estimated that 690 million people or 8.9 percent of the world's total population are in hunger. In addition, the total world population is also expected to continue to grow from 7 billion people today to 9 billion people in 2050. Therefore, the UNSDG has set a target of #ZeroHunger or a world without hunger in 2030.

To achieve this target, EHP is committed to always trying to achieve food security for the community around the Company's operational areas. Through CSR activities, EHP cultivates horticultural crops (seasonal vegetables and fruits), annual fruit crops, and industrial plants (plasma oil palm plantations). In addition, EHP also conducts animal husbandry and fishery cultivation, which consist of poultry (chicken and duck) farming, small ruminants (goats, pigs) large ruminants (cows), as well as fast-water fisheries, ponds, and captive fisheries.

The company has implemented various community empowerment programs. One of them is the laying duck cultivation program for the community around PT Pesona Lintas Surasejati (PLS) which is located in Rantau Buda Village, Kelumpang Barat District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan since 2019. The beneficiaries of the laying duck cultivation program started with three farmer groups, each -each consisting of five people. The Company provides technical assistance, day old duck (DOD) seeds, feed, and other equipment needed to be distributed to each member. This laying duck cultivation program has yielded results in the form of improving community nutrition, and becoming a source of additional income for the family. The Company is trying to increase the number of target groups and procure egg incubators to increase the population of ducks.
